Hot weather continued in Hong Kong on Monday (August 10) as Typhoon Dolphin’s outer subsiding air kept temperatures extremely high, leaving locals and tourists sweating in the humidity.

Tourists and residents sought shade and relief as the city recorded its hottest day on record on Sunday (August 9) when temperatures hit 36.9 degrees Celsius (98.4 Fahrenheit), the highest since official meteorological records began in 1884.

The Hong Kong Observatory said Dolphin’s outer subsiding air would continue to bring the extreme conditions as the storm moves across eastern China, with the heat expected to persist until Thursday (August 13) and reach 37 degrees Celsius or higher in some areas early in the week.
